The Kerr House was built in 1887 for Francis Ferguson
Kerr. The architect and builder of the two-storey residence
are unknown.
Kerr arrived in Winnipeg in 1887 to take the
position of Principal at Carlton (later
South central) School, erected in 1883 on Graham Avenue between
Carlton and Hargrave streets. The city’s
population had more than doubled to 20,200 between 1881 and
1886 and there had been significant expansion
in education and all other areas of urban development.
